Just a day, just an ordinary day... March 19, 2020
Woke up to a beautiful day in Red Hook. Did some stretches and exercises on the bow to start the day.
On Thursday afternoon, a friend on another crewed charter yacht had come by to see if we could run her and her husband in to shore on Friday afternoon as they needed to get off of the boat since they had picked up a delivery job taking a vessel from St Thomas to Ft Lauderdale. Since all of their charters canceled, they were looking forward to making some extra money by doing this delivery.
So our plan for the day was to take them to shore around noon, and then head over to Leinster Bay on St John and meet up with some friends on two other boats and hang out there for a few days (or weeks or months, depending).
I got busy in the morning making some mango jam with three beautiful mangoes that would have gone bad had I not preserved them. The jam turned out delicious and I made a video showing the process just for fun.
Later in the morning, we got a call that our friends would not be leaving on the delivery that afternoon, as weather conditions were unfavorable for the delivery at that time, so we cast off from Red Hook and made our way to beautiful Waterlemon Cay on Leinster Bay.
On the way to Leinster Bay, the Governor of the USVI held a press conference and announced that restaurants could remain open but would be limited to a maximum group of 10 people at any one time. I’m not sure if this includes the waitstaff and workers or not. Restaurants are also open for takeout business. The airport remains open. Our ports and borders remain open in the USVI.
We had a gorgeous BYO Protein dinner on Shangri La with shrimp skewers and a Spinach Salad from Catatonic and a delicious warm potato salad from Shangri La and Bread Pudding for dessert. Not to mention wine and a couple of Bernd’s delicious craft cocktails. It was a beautiful evening in the midst of all of this global turmoil. We are truly blessed.
